The charge of the HRLC Continuing Education Committee is to advise the Executive Board on the planning and evaluation of staff development activities for member library staff. It will conduct continuing education needs assessments, collect and disseminate general information related to continuing education programs, trends and needs, and coordinate regional activities within the statewide continuing education program.

Winning Ideas – Ways to Market Your Library

On March 18, 2005, over 40 HRLC members joined the Continuing Education Committee and the Marketing/P.R. Task Force for a morning of inspiration, information and celebration of the many ways our members get the word out about their libraries.

• We applauded the achievements of the “Prize-Winning P.R./Marketing” contest winners, and heard how the first prize winners developed their ideas.



• We drew inspiration from a display of all the contest entries – an array of 35 creative, strategic, and effective projects from libraries throughout the region. The entries are available for borrowing



• Mary Martin of the Morris County Library spoke on “Marketing on a Shoestring,” introduced us to Mary’s Marketing Toolbox, and asked “Can You Answer Yes?” to your customers’ questions.



• Finally, participants brainstormed in groups to develop marketing plans and tips for a variety of situations – including tips you can use in your library!

COMMITTEE MEMBERS
